Your family photos are some of the most valuable possessions you could ever have. That is why we recommend storing them in a climate controlled facility such as ours. If you’re photos are kept in a garage, attic, or basement, the extreme temperatures alone could cause serious damage to your precious memories.

The best way to store your photos long term is in a manner by which they are not touching one another. In other words, they should be kept in albums or with a sheet of acid-free paper between each photo to prevent sticking. The same rule applies to your old film negatives as well.

Plastic sleeves can be found at photo supply stores and some craft stores, and can be very useful in organizing your photos for storage. You can also use plastic sandwich bags as a more budget friendly alternative. Either way remember to only use acid-free materials to avoid damaging your photos.

Once you have your photos in individual sleeves or albums you may want to invest in an archival quality box to keep them in. Again, these should be acid-free and sturdy on all sides. You can then place your photo box or boxes into the storage unit confident that your precious memories are well protected.
